Fox Tuition courses are managed and taught by one of our trained tutors and can provide a focus on six key area

Exam technique

Within their classes students will have plenty of time to focus on 'exam technique'. Obviously the more a students knows the better they are likely to do, however, knowing the common pitfalls students make will give them the advantage in actually applying this knowledge.

For example one of the most common problems is students not answering the question as it is asked. Instead they panic, and jump straight in throwing all the possibly related they know onto the paper. By doing this they not only miss out on marks for answering correctly, but also hamper themselves for the other questions wasting time. To tackle this tutors can work with the student practicing past papers so that they are completely familiar with the structure of papers before entering the exam. Tutors can also help them practice and remember useful tricks such as using the marks as a guide. Marks on papers give a rough guide as to how long the answers should be e.g. a question worth 10 marks will be roughly double the length as a question worth 5 marks.

Students are taught 'exam technique' by a Fox Tuition tutor in the online classroom. The focus will be on working through past papers, discussing model answers until each student understands explicitly how papers are marked and how to get the best possible grade.

Educational success plans

By writing up a step-by-step plan specifically designed for each student this ensures they will be prepared for their exams or able to keep on top of school work. Breaking the requirements down and incorporating weekly targets makes it easy for both student and tutor to keep track of their progress. With measures and reports it will be immediately clear as soon as the student falls off target so they can reassess how to get back on track.

Learning difficulties

Our approach to students with learning difficulties is unique. For example take our approach to dyslexia. Most people approach this as a learning difficulty instead of what it is, which is a learning difference.

Dyslexics are often good at understanding complex ideas in their head but have a poor record of putting structured arguments on paper. As a result, many students with high ability under-perform in exams because the arguments are 'lost in translation' between the answer as a thought process and it manifesting itself as a written answer.

In a Fox Tuition lesson, dyslexic students will be encouraged to talk their way through their answers with their tutor and the tutor will then mark their oral answer as if the answer was written on paper and the tutor was an unforgiving examiner. The tutor will mark the answer, tell the student how to improve the question, and then ask again and again until the student is getting correct answers every time. Once they are speaking high marking answers fluently then it is a small step to make to get them to practise writing answers down.

Each student is unique and our tutors approach each individual case differently to help each student realise their potential.

Learning efficiency

Many students find that however much effort they put into learning the rewards are minimal. Our tutors can help students really focus on how to learn. Everything from how to read to remember to structuring essays and making good revision notes.

Educational consultancy

Many students find it difficult to cope, even if they are keeping on track with their knowledge of the subject they find it very difficult to organise their time especially in the build up to exams. Students can become overwhelmed by the amount they need to cover and it can swamp them. Having a few sessions with an educational consultant can really help students plan an efficient working structure so they can check they are on target and covering all the necessary material. This can help throughout the term as well as at exam times.

Syllabus knowledge

Every week students will be given preparatory reading material outside of their lessons, which they will then be tested on during each lesson. Tutors move at the students pace so that they fully understand everything. This guarantees that each student has the adequate knowledge levels to succeed.
